With no games in the NBA yesterday due to Thanksgiving, all teams had a game today, meaning all teams with active Australians were playing today
In the first game of the day, Patty Mills and the San Antonio Spurs took on the Boston Celtics, beating them 109-103
Andrew Bogut and the Dallas Mavericks took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, losing 128-90
Aron Baynes and the Detroit Pistons took on the league leading Los Angeles Clippers, beating them 108-97
In the East, Matthew Dellavedova and the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Toronto Raptors, losing 105-99
Mills played 24 minutes off the bench against the Celtics and was critical in securing the win. Mills scored 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. He also hit 2-of-3 from distance. Mills made it to the free throw line five time, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the line.
Mills also collected one rebound, one assist and a steal. He reminded us all of why San Antonio locked him up on a three year deal after their last championship. His shooting in invaluable to this team.
Bogut played his typical game but I think he needs to start to look to score more often. In 22 minutes he went 1-of-3 for two points. He did collect 11 rebounds, five of these were offensive. So Bogut himself gave Dallas five more second chance opportunities and they still lost by 38 points.
Bogut also collected two assists and two steals but the turnover that he threw of Deron Williams head summed up the Mavericks season season so far. Bogut also collected five fouls, almost fouling out in such a short period of time.
Baynes had another one of those games. In 21 minutes he only scored four points on 2-of-7 shooting. He did help keep Mareesse Speights to three points and two rebounds and DeAndre Jordan to 12 points and nine rebounds. This was critical in keeping the Los Angeles Clippers out of the contest.
Baynes did also collect six rebounds in the contest. The Clippers knew they were in a hard contest as all the Detroit big men who hit the court had four fouls, including Baynes.
Dellavedova was always going to be in for a hard night playing on Kyle Lowry and the Aussie made Lowry play hard on both ends of the court. Dellavedova played 29 minutes, scoring 11 points and being a good third scoring option on the court. He went 5-of-9 from field including a very important 3-of-5 from three.
Dellavedova helped team leader Giannis Antetokounmpo orchestrate the offense. He has eight assists and only two turnovers. Dellavedova also collected three rebounds and an assist.
Maker did not get any court time tonight against the Raptors.
Ingles has moved down the depth chart with both Gordon Hayward and Joe Johnson playing well. The Australian combination guard/forward still got ten minutes of playing time thanks to his versatility scoring three points on 1-of-3 shooting. All of his shots were taken from deep as Ingles was used to help space the floor. He also collected two assists.
Exum was used as the third string point guard tonight and as such only got five minutes of play. Exum missed both his shots but still contributed with an assist, a steal and a block on the night.
Ben Simmons is still recovering from the surgery to repair the Jones fracture in his foot. There is still no timetable for his return.
