There were four games in the NBA involving Australians today.
Aron Baynes and the Detroit Pistons traveled to Charlotte to take on the more highly fancied Charlotte Hornets. The Pistons came away with a resounding victory 112-89.
Matthew Dellavedova and Thon Maker with their Milwaukee Bucks took on the champions from last year, the Cleveland Cavalier. To spice the game up even more it was the first game for Dellavedova for the Bucks against his old club. The Bucks took the win 118-101 at home.
Patty Mills and the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Orlando Magic. In a surprise result, the Spurs lost this low scoring affair 95-83.
Joe Ingles and Dante Exum of the Utah Jazz hosted the Houston Rockets. The Jazz showed off their new offensive prowess this year, beating the Rockets 120-101
Baynes had a true back-up center’s game against the Hornets. In 22 minutes he had eight points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field. He also had eight rebounds, including three offensive.
It is impossible to say that this was a grudge match against his old club. Dellavedova left on such good terms with the Cavaliers that there was no animosity. However, there is always a feeling that you want to do well.
Play well he did. In 25 minutes Dellavedova only had three points on 1-of-5 shooting. However, Dellavedova’s worth is never able to be measured in his points production. Dellavedova also had three rebounds, seven assists and two steals in another good all round game.
Maker played two minutes of junk time tonight but he made the most of it, scoring four points on 1-of-2 points while going 2-of-2 from the line. Maker also collected one rebound in what is hopefully an audition for greater playing time.
In one of today’s big surprises the Spurs lost at home to the Magic. Unfortunately Mills was not able to keep his streaking of good scoring going, in 19 minutes scoring seven points on 2-of-5 shooting, including 1-of-3 from distance. He was perfect from the line with 2-of-2.
Mills also collected two rebounds, two assists and one steal in the game
My Versatility, Joe Ingles played 12 minutes of game time tonight. He scored three points on 1-of-1 from distance. Ingles also collected two rebounds and two assists
Exum actually got some game time against the Rockets, playing eight minutes. Unfortunately, Exum was the only Jazz player wit a negative plus/minus, he was -10 on the night.
Exum did score two points on 1-of-4 from the field and collected three rebounds.
