There were two games today involving Australians.
Aron Baynes and the Detroit Pistons traveled to Atlanta to take on the Hawks, beating them 121-85.
Patty Mills and the San Antonio Spurs hosted the Washington Wizards, winning on a Kawhi Leonard shot in the final seconds.
Baynes played for 15 minutes for two points, going 2-of-2 from the line. He did not actually put up a field goal for the time that he was on the court.
In a rare night for Baynes, he did not populate any other positive statistical category. He did collect one turnover and four fouls however.
This was the first game all year where Baynes did not collect a single rebound which is usually his bread and butter.
His plus/minus was plus 6 so he had to be doing something right on the night.
In a game that should not have been close, the Spurs prevailed. Part of this was due to the injection of Mills from the bench. In 27 minutes he scored ten points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. His accuracy was better from range where he went 2-of-4 behind the line.
He missed the potential game tying three near the end of regulation. Fortunately the Spurs had another chance and Mills gave the assist to Danny Green who shot the go ahead three before John Wall tied the game again. Leonard iced the game like the superstar he is becoming.
Mills collected four rebounds and had a team high eight assists in a performance critical to the win.
The Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Orlando Magic, 105-88. Ben Simmons is still out recovering from surgery on the Jones fracture in his foot.
