There was only one game in the NBA today involving an Australian
Today Patty Mills and the San Antonio Spurs traveled to Los Angeles to take on the Blake Griffin-less Clippers at the Staples Center. In a game that should have been a Spurs victory considering one of the Clippers big three were out, the Spurs surprisingly lost 106-101. This is a similar situation to last season when the Clippers lost Griffin for an extended period of time and won nine straight before losing a game without Griffin. They actually went 30-15 without the former number one pick.
In a rare off night, Mills was not his normal self. He played 17 minutes and only scored three points on 1-of-5 from the field, 1-of-3 from deep. Mills also collected two rebounds and one assist.
It was a hard night for the San Antonio point guards as Tony Parker struggled as well, scoring two points, collecting two rebounds and three assists. The reason for this was Chris Paul. Before he went off with a hamstring strain, Paul was all over the San Antonio playmakers, chasing them through screens and not giving them many open looks. Raymond Felton also helped here when Paul went off injured.
Without the point guards having their usual freedom, the San Antonio offense was not as good tonight, Kawhi Leonard with 27 points and Pau Gasol with 21 points being the obvious exceptions.
Next game for the Spurs is tomorrow in Portland against the Trail Blazers
